Medication Errors

A nursing home is responsible for ensuring that all residents receive all medication prescribed by their doctors in the correct dosage and at the correct time of day. They may not give residents additional or new medication unless it is prescribed by a doctor. Nursing homes must have systems in place to prevent giving the wrong medication to the wrong resident. Staff must record every medication given in the resident’s chart.
